What Is Photography? & Famous Photographers

What is photography?

Photography is an art & science of capturing light reflected from a given object to form an image that is recorded either on film or digitally, there are many variables that are taken into consideration when taking a photograph including exposure time, focus and shutter speed. There are various types of photography which gives you different effect outcomes with your pictures, some of these types are: Aerial(Standing tall or above subject), Architecture(Buildings no people), Black and White(working with no colours), Artistic (Shot of subject with creativity number one goal), Panoramic(wide view subject) and macro(subject very small/up close & very detailed). Photography is one of the most powerful means of communication because its expressed with no words just a picture which mean the photographer uses there creativity to include as much information as they can and gives the viewer something to see and consider.The light becomes the words to not only give them something to see and consider but something to say. Most photographers mainly including sociality, culture and geographical boundaries to express there thought and feeling in the photography.

Ansel Adams - Ansel Easton Adams was an american photographer and environmentalist, Born February 20th  1902, San Francisco, US and died April 22nd 1984, Monterey, US born to Charles Hitchcock Adams and Olive Bray Adams, having him as the first child. He grandfather founded and build prosperous lumber business, which Ansel father later took over and what they became wealthy and successful from, and it was thought that Ansel would take over that very same business later in his life. At the age of 12 Ansel became interested in piano and play for many years until he gave up music for photography, but the careful training and exacting craft required of a musician profoundly influenced his visual artistry. During His First trip to Yosemite National Park his father gave him his first camera, which was a Kodak Brownie box camera,  this where he took his first photographs. For a few years after he worked with better cameras and learned basic techniques whiles working part-time for a san francisco photo finisher, he was very enthusiastic with his photography work and even attended camera clubs and went to photography/art exhibits. His first photographs were published in 1921, even these early photos already showed careful composition and sensitivity. during the 1930s adams work matured and became more established and during the course of his 60-year career these years were some of his most productive and most experimental times. He began expanding his work and focusing on detailed close ups as well large forms.later in the 1940s adams put together the largest photograph show to date, attended by millions this is were he career in photography got recognised more and took off.

Brian Duffy - Brian Duffy was an english photographer and film producer, born in London on 15 June 1933. He first came into contact with photography in 1955 he began freelancing as a fashion artist. He applied for and had a few jobs being a photographers assistant where he received his first photographic commission. In 1957 he got hired by British vogue where he remained working until 1963, During his time at British vogue he worked with many top models. He worked with other photographers and helped create a culture of high fashion and celebrity, they were known as the 'Terrible Three'. But with this type of photography they represented a new breed of photographer and with this became elevated to celebrity status. In 1967 Duffy set up his own film production company which he went on to produce many of short films. In 1979 Duffy exited the world of photography and persevered in a career of film/television production.

Annie Liebovitz - Annie Liebovitz is an american portrait photographer who was born october 2nd 1949. During  high school she was interested in writing and playing music, then moved on to studying painting in San Francisco Art Institute. She carried on with his interest of photography, after taking her first pictures when she was stationed in the Philippines during Vietnam War, by starting as a photographer for the new Rolling Stones magazine. In 1973 she got promoted to chief photographer of the magazine which she carried on for 10 year taking numerous photos of celebrities and was even awarded numerous awards. For the rest of her career Liebovitz worked on lots of photo shoots with many of famous celebrities like John Lennon and other projects which improved her profile and in 2007 even had the honour to take the queens official picture. She still continues today to take many famous photos and portraits of celebrities.
